Winslow Architects WAI Boston Doris Bunte

WINSLOW ARCHITECTS INC. (WAI) has been selected by the Boston Housing Authority to renovate its uniquely-shaped round 20 story tower building with 163 units of senior housing on Columbus Avenue in Boston. Now known as the Doris Bunte Apartments, this building was constructed in the 1960s and is a dramatic example of mid-20th century modernist architecture. It is constructed entirely of concrete slabs and block walls – in an 85’ diameter round shape.

WAI has brought together consulting engineers to create a complete AE Team to overhaul and modernize the building – including repair of concrete floors and facades, all building mechanical systems, replacing of kitchen and bathrooms, and providing new energy efficient HVAC and electrical systems. Planning has begun with hopes for construction start in Spring of 2019. The project is being funded under the HUD RAD funding program.
