DESIGN CHALLENGE

Retain the integrity of an early 20th century home with original woodwork and features – while providing for a contemporary kitchen, entry and home office. The kitchen are could not expand without undoing much of the fabric of the existing house. The challenge was to provide a contemporary kitchen within a constrained area.

DESIGN APPROACH

The design approach was to design a kitchen around a central table rather than an island -as is done in so many contemporary kitchens. Putting the table in the center focused on family and family life and the kitchen was designed in that spirit. The addition included a new mudroom, bathroom and porch and was designed in a style that matched the style of the house.
