DESIGN CHALLENGE

Design 10 units of affordable housing on a vacant 1.5 acre parcel in the middle of an established residential neighborhood.

DESIGN APPROACH

Winslow Architects was selected for this project because of our ongoing commitment to designing decent affordable housing for those with limited means as well as for our experience with designing multifamily housing in single family neighborhoods. For this project, we explored the possibility of designing duplexes in such a way that they would appear as larger single family homes. Providing 2 units in a single family building type enabled us to achieve the necessary density of 10 units on approximately 1.5 acres. Our client was successful in obtaining the necessary approvals due in a part to this design approach.
